Hogwarts Legacy Launch Sales Outshine Everything in Europe

Well, except FIFA.

You're probably getting a bit tired of hearing about it now, but in case you hadn't noticed: Hogwarts Legacy is a hit. Launching about a month ago on PS5, the RPG has been selling by the bucketload in the UK, and as it turns out, the same goes for Europe as a whole. According to a new report from GamesIndustry.biz, it's had the biggest launch (for a game without FIFA in its name) since the European charts began in 2017.

Yes, it's had a better launch period than Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, and perhaps most surprisingly, every Call of Duty of the last six years. According to sales data (physical and digital combined), the game is the fifth best-selling title of the last 12 months, and it's only had three weeks on the market. When you consider the recently delayed last-gen version of the game is still to come, we expect Hogwarts Legacy to be easily one of 2023's top sellers.

Also interesting is the resurgence of The Last of Us games, which have seen huge spikes in sales off the back of the nearly-finished TV adaptation. The Last of Us Remastered and The Last of Us: Part II are both back in the European top 20, with a sales leap of 285 per cent and 315 per cent respectively.

In terms of hardware, we've already seen PS5 sales skyrocket lately in the UK, and again, that's true for the continent as a whole. Unit sales are up by five times over February of last year, thanks to Sony's big push to get lots of PS5 stock in stores.
