Ghost Recon Frontline Reportedly Getting a Reboot, Another New Game Coming Soon

After support for Ghost Recon Breakpoint ended this week, people were wondering what would be happening to the franchise from this point on. Well, according to the latest rumor, Ghost Recon Frontline is getting a reboot and there’s a brand new mainline installment in development at Ubisoft Paris.


Why is Ghost Recon Frontline being rebooted?





Ghost Recon Frontline was introduced to gamers in October. The free-to-play, first-person PvP shooter featured a new take on the battle royale franchise, but the reveal trailer was immediately met with criticism for diverging from the franchise’s trademark features. After an internal playtest drew negative feedback, a public test was postponed and the game went extremely quiet. According to Kotaku, the game is now being rebooted. The chances of it hitting consoles anytime soon are pretty slim.


Fans may be more encouraged to hear a new Ghost Recon title is in development at Ubisoft Paris. Sources close to the project claim the game is currently codenamed OVER and was one of the titles accidentally revealed during the GeForce Now internal database leak. Ubisoft has already been working on the game for over a year. As such, its release is much farther along than Frontline and we might even see OVER on consoles before the end of this year. The developer did promise that they had learned from their mistakes with Breakpoint. Hopefully this means they won’t try to include NFTs.


In other news, today’s Horizon Forbidden West patch has fixed the “unintentional changes” made to Legendary weapons during the last update. The change list also included fixes for machine spawns and looting, as well as a chance to sing along to the title song, “In The Flood”. Elsewhere, Dying Light 2’s New Game Plus mode is due to be released before the end of April as part of Patch 3.
