F1 2021 Races Onto PS5, PS4 This Summer, Free Upgrade Path Confirmed

Codemasters has been making official Formula One games for quite some time now, and they're universally excellent. It makes sense, then, that the first game the studio has announced since its acquisition by EA is F1 2021, the next instalment in the series.

As you'd expect, this latest iteration will feature all the teams, tracks, and drivers from the 2021 F1 season, with Career mode of course making its return — although this time, you can play it with two players, either working together or driving for rival teams. We don't get to see the game in action in the announcement trailer above, but it does highlight an interesting addition to the franchise: a story mode.

Named Braking Point, this mode will take players on a dramatic journey as they "rise from the ranks of Formula 2 to a shot at stardom in the world of Formula 1". Apparently, the story mode will offer a taste of both the on and off-track lifestyle, including "the rivalries, emotion and dedication needed to compete at the highest level".

Additionally, three brand new circuits — Portimão, Imola, and Jeddah — will come to the game as free post-launch content.

It's also worth noting that this is the first F1 game on the new systems, and yes, there will be a free upgrade path from PlayStation 4 to PS5. The new-gen version of the game will benefit from fast loading speeds and enhanced visual fidelity, as you might expect. There's no word on support for the DualSense's features, but we're sure haptics will be included.
