Bungie has hinted at some upcoming backend changes for a while; but now thanks to the studio's latest blog post, we actually have some semblance of how that is going to directly impact players when the Beyond Light expansion arrives.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>First up: the Bethesda preamble, as I'm calling it. Remember when Bethesda "warned" players that Fallout 76 was going to be super buggy before it was released? Bungie is doing something similar to temper expectations. Here's the gist: "The new scripting environment changed many behaviors in complex ways, and you may see interesting behavior changes or bugs in pre-Beyond-Light missions (and public events, and similar) that were originally built and tested on the previous system.  We’ve tested these missions heavily and stamped out many bugs, but some will undoubtedly slip through."\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>While Destiny as a whole hasn't been nearly as problematic as say...any Bethesda game ever made, it's good to have this heads-up now just in case, so folks are more diligent when reporting bugs during Beyond Light's launch. A bonus of this system? You can re-join fireteams in the Tower without reloading the game. Some of that backend jank is finally going away!\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Then there's the issue of the entire build of the game, which was Frakensteined together through various patches. To make way for a uniform new build, you will need to redownload the entire game when Beyond Light hits. Bungie has issued a statement on the matter, saying: "we know this will be painful for those with slower or metered internet connections, and we’re sorry about that."\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Here's the good news. Bungie is allowing 10 hours of preload time before launch, plus the install size of the game will shrink by "30-40%." Bungie says that new builds can also be deployed much quicker, with an estimated time of "less than 12 hours" compared to the previous "north of 24 hour" requirement in the past. It also helps their entire development cycle.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Most of this is good! Destiny and Destiny 2 have often been accused of running on spaghetti code by some, so this should smooth a lot of those issues It seems to be a space where Zavala looks to bring honor back to the shattered Vanguard.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>The new Activity for the Season is called Battlegrounds, a three-player matchmade activity that sets Guardians in ritual combat against the Cabal following the breakdown of negotiations with the Vanguard. The Cabal incursion threatens the safety of The Last City, and a new Strike called Proving Grounds (coming later in the Season) will have players be the last line of defense.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>The Devil’s Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strikes are also returning from Destiny 1. If they follow a similar pattern to the Will of Crota strike that returned alongside Beyond Light, expect them to be a little bit updated and recontextualized to fit in with the current story and state of the world. Both are Cosmodrome strikes that make use of the returned location from Destiny 1.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Of course, it wouldn’t be Destiny without gear to chase, and there’s plenty coming. An Exotic Quest is currently, redacted, though the imagery makes it appear to be a Tex Mechanica weapon of some sort. The Exotic Bow Ticuu’s Redemption has solar arrows that can track targets. More than 25 weapons are being added to the loot pool for the season—including both new and reissued weapons. And players can use the Prismatic Recaster to focus Umbral Engrams and target what gear they earn.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Guardian Games is returning, running from April 20th to May 9th, along with a “Closing Ceremonies” May 7-9th. In Those Destiny 2 Tokens Before Beyond Light's Season 13 Begins","\u003Cp>Tokens are a huge motivating factor behind the PvP of Destiny 2, but as Beyond Light continues its progression from season to season, new changes are coming in for how the game operates. Bungie is warning players to go ahead and use up their tokens now before the arrival of season 13 because the new season will render them as good as garbage.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Vendor tokens are a way for Guardians to cash in on their efforts, turning them in for loot, quest steps, or just weapon parts fodder. These tokens are also vital to acquiring Legendary gear for the loot itself or to farm for Legendary Shards. While tokens are going away here shortly, the change is actually fan-requested, and signals the return of a more direct rewards system. \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>Rewards area lead Justin Dazet took to the Bungie Blog to update players on where tokens are heading and why the change. \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>When talking about the changes to rewards, Dazet confirmed that the areas affected will be Crucible and Gambit, as well as Strikes. While only Crucible and Gambit are PvP-centric (with Strikes falling securely in the PvE space), the vendor tokens act much in the same way for all three player activities. According to Dazet, "We’ll be adding two new unique weapon rewards to each of the three playlist rituals (so six total across all three activities). The studio also previewed some upcoming patch notes, as well as a new Tower terminal for picking up old quests.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>The Monument to Lost Lights Exotic Archive is a new terminal in the Tower, sitting comfortably between the current Vault terminals. Here, players can buy Exotics whose quests will leave the game on Nov. 10. Exotics like Anarchy and Tarrabah currently drop from two raids leaving the game, and Exotics like Rat King primarily come from planets like Titan — also leaving the game with Beyond Light. With these quests gone, the Monument to Lost Lights Exotic Archive will be the way players can backfill their inventories with those weapons.\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\r\n\r\n\u003Cp>While Bungie didn’t show the UI for this terminal, the studio described how players will buy some unavailable Exotics. Prices will change depending on how difficult or long the quest to get it was. Players will combine Glimmer, destination materials, Masterworking materials, and an Exotic Cipher or Ascendant Shard to purchase Exotics.
