Coffee Queen revealed as new Tekken 8 fighter

The long-awaited Evo 2023 brought surprises for Tekken 8 fans, but Bandai Namco didn't disappoint by introducing two new fighters for the game. Among the new additions to the roster is the never-before-seen Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo, also known as the "Queen of Coffee".

Azucena is the heiress of a prestigious family of coffee producers in Peru and will have the opportunity to promote the family brand during The King of Iron Fist tour.

The character is known for his hyperactivity, brought on by the caffeine doses in his system that give him quick sidesteps and powerful mixed martial arts-based strikes. Her signature move is called the "Liberator", a stance that taunts her opponent and allows her to dodge enemy attacks.

In Heat state, Azucena automatically launches a counterattack after dodging an attack, putting even more pressure on the opponent. Azucena's story revolves around her ambition to promote her family's coffee farm to the world. This is reflected in her actions during fights, including a special cinematic scene shown when she knocks out her opponent with her Rage Art, reminiscent of a TV commercial advertising her family's coffee.

Game director Kohei Ikeda commented on the creation of Azucena:

"We thought about the key characteristics that embody a carefree and exuberant attitude that symbolizes South America, and imagined creating a character who always has fun fighting. This led to the birth of Azucena."
