CMA's blocking of Microsoft's purchase of Activision may be due to conflict of interest

Microsoft promises to reverse the situation

After the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) blocked Microsoft's $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, journalist Jez Corden has learned that the final decision may have been a conflict of interest.

In the publication, Corden claims that Colin Raftery, a senior director at the CMA, previously worked at the law firm Cleary Gottlieb, which has ties to Sony, which could indicate a "favor" for the blue side of the force.

Although Raftery hasn't worked at the firm for a few years, personal relationships may indeed have been a factor in the denial of the acquisition. Of course, Microsoft is already investigating the information and promises to file a new lawsuit to have the purchase approved as early as 2023.

Several agencies have already approved the purchase, which may mean that the position of the British agency will be revised.
