Multiplayer project to be officially unveiled this year.

A gigantic year for The Last of Us awaits, beginning with HBO’s high-profile television adaptation later this month – but it’s not the only thing Naughty Dog has in store for the series’ 10th anniversary. In a hype-inducing blog post, creator Neil Druckmann revealed that the franchise has now flogged 37 million units to date – and with the PC port of The Last of Us: Part I due out on 3rd March, that figure seems poised to grow even more.

Of course, the big project that we’ve all been waiting for is the franchise’s ambitious, standalone multiplayer spin-off – and while there’s no date attached just yet, Druckmann says the team will begin to share details on the release later this year.

Druckmann added: “With a team led by Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati, and Anthony Newman, the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay.”

We can’t wait to see what this multiplayer game looks and plays like – it’s remained such a mystery for so long now that the unveiling is surely going to be a moment to savour in 2023.
