Aerial tragedy claims the life of Ubisoft co-founder
The peripheral manufacturer itself and the digital entertainment conglomerate have confirmed the institutional loss. A spokesperson for Ubisoft issued an official statement of condolence: “Ubisoft is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and president of Guillemot Corp., in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further comments will be made at this time.” It is a heavy moment for the French industry, losing one of its most traditional names in a global setting where corporate leadership often feels cold and distant, reminding us of the human fragility behind major brands.
The executive was 69 years old, and in addition to his historical significance in creating the gaming giant, he led Guillemot Corp., the corporation responsible for the well-known accessory and racing wheel brand Thrustmaster.
Details of the tragic event were initially reported by the local outlet Ouest France and later highlighted by the news agency Bloomberg. According to the gathered details, the businessman was on board a twin-engine Cessna 421 that crashed on the previous Friday, June 19, in the region of La Baule, located in Brittany. The accident unfortunately resulted in the deaths of the two sole occupants of the aircraft. Facing news of such gravity completely disrupts the lighthearted tone of technology news, shifting the focus to the legacy left by those who helped shape the way we consume video games since the 1980s.
